Sun, Air, Sand and Ocean: Upcoming Yoga Courses and Workshops

Greetings, I hope you’ve all enjoyed this lovely transition into fall. I was fortunate enough to have a quick visit to Tofino to dance in the trees on the edge of the Pacific Rim Nation Park Reserve at Long Beach this September with Aeriosa. What a joy to take in the beauty and fresh air of that stunning place.

I’ve also recently completed my Intermediate Junior 1 teaching certification in Iyengar Yoga. I wanted to say a big thank you to my family, peers, and teachers who supported me in this work. The process of going through an assessment like this called to my mind tapas. Tapas is the third of the niyamas (personal observances) from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.  It has been translated into English as heat, spiritual austerities, fiery discipline and internal fire.

BKS Iyengar wrote that, “A worthy aim makes life illumined, pure and divine. Without such an aim, action and prayer have no value. Life without tapas is like a heart without love.

My aim was simply to learn more, to develop in my own practice, and to be able to share this information through my teaching. I certainly feel that much was learned through this process and I look forward to continuing to sharing it with my students.
Please join me for the next set of classes this fall. I’ll be continuing to teach at Yoga on 7th and Ocean and Crow. I’ve added two special Sunday night workshops at Ocean and Crow November 5th and December 3rd. See below for details.

Upcoming Iyengar Yoga Workshops at Ocean and Crow

Happy, Healthy Hips and Knees

Sunday, November 5th, 7:00-9:00pm

Join me for an informative 2 hour workshop in which we learn to both strengthen and open the hips. Through a series of standing poses we will warm up the hip muscles and learn to identify which ones assist us in balances and help us find stability in our pelvis. Next we will explore the seated work of both internal and external rotation. Learn how to find more ease in your hips without straining the knees or ankles, bringing circulation to this large group of muscles, and creating a positive response throughout the whole body. This workshop is appropriate for students of all levels, including those working with injuries and pregnant students who maintain a regular practice.

$40+tax before October 28th. Late registration (after October 28th) $45+tax

Journey Inward: Gentle Yoga and Restorative Iyengar Techniques

Sunday December 3 2017, 7:00 to 9:00 pm

As we head towards the darkest part of the year, come spend a Sunday evening with Iyengar yoga instructor Meghan Goodman and unwind. Together we will practice gentle yoga postures, be guided through a series of pranayama breath exercises and then settle into deep relaxation. This workshop is a great way to nourish your nervous system and prepare for a restful night’s sleep. This workshop is appropriate for students of all levels, including those working with injuries and pregnant students who maintain a regular practice.

Aligning Body, Mind, and Breath: Iyengar Yoga

Friday Mornings, 10-11:30am, 6-week course at Ocean and Crow

Register here:

Do you want to start your day off right? Join Meghan Goodman, certified Iyengar yoga instructor, for an alignment based practice that will help you feel more centered and energized for your day. The teaching will focus on building stable and healthy foundations. We will work on improving concentration and developing inner awareness so that the postures become a form of ‘meditation in action’, integrating the body, mind and breath. Students will be encouraged to ask questions and we will discover together how the use of yoga props can assist us to find our bodies optimal flow of energy, to offer support when needed, and to move deeper in the postures without creating stress or tension. The specific content of the course will be tailored for the students enrolled; ie. where they are at in their practice, and what their goals and yoga curiosities are.

November 17th-December 22nd.

$102+tax before October 28th.

Late registration (after October 28th) $114+tax

Returning to Work

Greetings from the baby bubble.

It’s been a wonderful summer of getting to know our little Sage and spending time with friends and family.

I’m excited to announce that I’m slowly returning to teaching, Sunday night’s starting mid-September, and Thursday night’s beginning in October at Ocean and Crow Yoga. Both classes are Slow Yoga from 6-7:15pm. Hope to see you there.

I’ll be offering 3 workshops in October for the public on movement and photography at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster with Body Narratives Collective. See our Outreach Workshop page for more info, call 604 527 4640 or click here to register

Sage and I have also been back to the dance studio, co-directing research through Project CPR. Body Narratives Collective (Julia Carr and I) are working towards a production, April 20-23rd, 2016 at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts.

Here’s a little video David Cooper shot and put together for us capturing a few moments from our process. Thank you to all the dancers, Joel Destefano for his musical contributions, and Claire French for her mentorship.
